The Chemical Reaction
This therapy is holistic, it deals with you and your neurological issues via the stimulation of nerve endings in the daith region. Once the position is located and the piercing(s) is done, the body will calm by releasing acetylcholine. This chemical prompts other chemicals like oxytocin and vasopressin to be secreted. Your heart rate slows, and you feel calm and relaxed with an increased ability to bond with others, your neck and shoulders will relax. Migraines, tension headaches and anxiety issues can be significantly reduced or disappear completely. The therapy is point specific and a near miss can result is only the swelling from the localised area causing a short term effect.
Acetylcholine (ACh) :
The main neurotransmitter or the parasympathetic nervous system. This is known to influence behaviors. Low levels have been linked to learning and memory impairments and brain disorders including dementia and Alzheimers. There are clinical studies that suggest it plays an important part in mood regulation.
Oxytocin & Vasopressin (AVP) :
Hormone and a neurotransmitters associated with empathy, trust, sexual activity, and relationship-building. Increased levels are though to have benefits in treating conditions such as depression and anxiety. It is produced in the hypothalamus, a part of the brain and released via the posterior pituitary gland.
Oxytocin has an important role in simulating uterine contractions and milk let down after birth whilst Vasopressin helps regulate urine concentration at the level of the kidneys.
Both are now understood to deal or mediate social behavior.
